How often does a dealer shuffle the cards at a standard British BlackJack table?
September 3, 2010 2 CommentsI think there are 2 scenarios that could depend on how many decks are in use…
1 – automatic shufflers at more modern casinos – how often dop they re shuffle?
2 – standard manual deals where I think they just rely on a player to place a marker in the decks.
Your help is much appreciated!
Casino
Varies from place to place from game to game so that no-one can plan ahead for card counting or anything. Why does it even matter? You can’t cheat a casino nowadays
Automatic shufflers re-introduce the used cards in a random way to the decks held in its hopper. These machines stop anyone who is trying to count down a deck; they also speed up the game as there is no pause for a dealer to shuffle up. Players do not then have a ‘rest’ either and so tend to tire more and make more errors in their Basic Strategy – increasing the operators percentage.
On a manual table the operator can use for, six or even eight decks depending on the legislation locally. (UK six is normal)
These then have a cutting card inserted normally 1.5 decks from the end of the total stack. The player ‘cuts’ the decks but the dealer places the cutting card as described above. This is to protect the operator from card-counters as there should be an unknowable number of cards remaining in the shoe when the cutting card re-appears during the dealing cycle. However a good counter will not be affected by a normal depth of cut.
